betterSoil and ESA BIC Baden-Württemberg
In 2025, we collaborated with the European Space Agency’s Business Incubation Centre to work towards building our Farm Assistant app, and to move forward in our mission to develop an agricultural tool integrating satellite technology and soil science. Explore our growth and progress alongside the ESA below.

The European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre
In 2025, betterSoil was selected to be a partner of the European Space Agency’s Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) at Baden-Württemberg. This collaboration enabled us to strengthen our business credibility and international visibility through access to world-class resources, expert networks and innovative research.
From the beginning of our journey, we were excited to be the first startup from Ulm with official support from ESA BIC BW and ESA Germany. This partnership allowed us to move forward in our mission to develop agricultural practices by integrating technology and soil science to help farmers across Europe increase yield, reduce costs and improve soil health.
The betterSoil Farm Assistant app
The funding and opportunities given to us through our collaboration with ESA BIC BW allowed us to work on our Farm Assistant project, developing agricultural technology using a combination of satellite data and technology with soil science to create a tool to maximise crop quantity and quality for farmers. Farm Assistant is a field-level support tool combining satellite-derived soil data, climate information, agronomic knowledge and personalised objectives to support crop planning that is data-driven and efficient. Our mission at the beginning of our partnership with ESA BIC BW’s program was to encourage intelligent soil management and a shift in mindset to recognise soil health as key to agricultural profitability and climate resilience. The Farm Assistant app will allow us to develop agricultural practices and achieve these goals.
The ESA BIC program
Funding initiatives for startups, like the ESA BIC program, allow for exposure and collaborations with mission-aligned organisations and help change-makers and innovators to work towards shared goals. Through our work with the ESA, we have been able to network and present ourselves to policymakers, agricultural organisations and funders to further drive the development of betterSoil.
We are at an exciting time in our organisation, having launched our Farm Assistant app and now working to develop global understanding of soil health and regenerative farming practices. Our partnership with ESA BIC BW supported the growth of our mission.
We are grateful for our collaboration with ESA BIC BW, and the opportunities to create and showcase our Farm Assistant app. We continue to develop as an organisation and to grow in our mission to make soil health measurable, profitable and scalable for farmers across Europe.
